Premature Ejaculation
Premature Ejaculation (PE) is characterized as ejaculation that happens within one minute of penetration. It is the most prevalent ejaculation issue and can affect many people with penises at various stages of their lives. It's important to notice that the definition of PE focuses on the time element following penetration, and this can often follow extended foreplay, all of which is considered part of sexual activity.
Be mindful not to be too hard on yourself if you ejaculate quickly after penetration, especially when you and your partner(s) have been aroused for a while. Most female bodied people are unable to achieve orgasm during penetration therefore this may not be considered as the most important element of sex.

Physical Causes of Premature Ejaculation

It is always helpful to visit your GP if you are experiencing a sexual function problem, to rule out physical causes. Common physical causes of premature ejaculation include:
-
Prostate problems
-
Thyroid problems
-
Using recreational drugs
-
Extra sensitive penis

Medical Treatments
Anaesthetic creams and sprays containing a numbing agent are occasionally utilised to address premature ejaculation. These products are applied to the penis 10 to 15 minutes prior to intercourse to diminish sensation and assist in delaying ejaculation. While topical anaesthetics may prove to be effective, they may lead to a temporary loss of sensation and reduced sexual pleasure for both you and your partner(s).
Additionally, certain medications, such as antidepressants, analgesics, and PDE5 inhibitors, are prescribed to help delay orgasm. These medications can be given for either demand or daily use and may be used alone or in conjunction with other treatments for PE.

How Sex therapy can help in the treatment of Premature Ejaculation.

If medical tests have excluded a physical cause, the next step is therapy. Premature ejaculation (PE) can arise from various behavioural or psychological factors. For instance, someone might have intentionally conditioned themselves to climax quickly to avoid being discovered while masturbating, or they may experience guilt about sex stemming from religious beliefs. Performance anxiety is a frequent contributor to PE, as is erectile dysfunction; individuals worried about losing their erection may rush to orgasm before it diminishes.

Sex therapists are specially trained to work with sexual issues and it is something they talk about all day long. Don't let embarrassment prevent you from getting the help that you need.
